Partners Alexandros Georgiades and Elena Ioannides attended a seminar organised by the Cyprus Bar Association on the protection of personal data and developments in this important area of the law.
The Commissioner for Protection of Personal Data discussed the current legal framework and outlined some of the changes which will be effected to the current regime once the recently enacted Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and Directive (EU) 2016/680 come in force. A discussion followed during which participants had the opportunity to exchange views on matters relating to the processing of personal data, including the disclosure of personal data in legal and administrative proceedings, the transfer of data to non EU/EEA countries, and the handling of complaints by the Office of the Commissioner.
