Chrysostomides: Cyprus chapter, Chambers Global Practice Guide, Litigation 2020

11th Dec 2020

Litigation 2020 features 51 jurisdictions. The guide provides expert legal commentary on litigation funding, initiating a lawsuit, statutes of limitations, representative or collective actions, pre-trial proceedings, discovery, injunctive relief, settlement, damages, appeals, costs, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and arbitration.

Partner Victoria-Zoi Papagiannis and associate Orestis Anastasiades are the authors of our firm’s Trends and Developments chapter in the Guide, which focuses on changes in this area of practice in Cyprus. Assessments of this year find the country’s dispute resolution system wounded, as a result of the courts’ closure for almost a quarter due to Covid-19, but with a new-found willingness to reinvent itself as a more efficient, digitalised and bolstered system, capable of asserting itself as an attractive forum for the enforcement of legal protections and rights.

Our  dispute resolution team has a strong international orientation and notable experience before national courts and arbitral tribunals alike (both ad hoc and institutional), and is particularly experienced in pursuing or defending complex, cross-border and multimillion USD/EUR cases, such as shareholder disputes, corporate and commercial fraud or conspiracy cases, product liability claims, breach of franchise, distribution and licensing agreements, disputes involving entities under liquidation or administration, breach of duties and negligence claims.
