Associate Polina Petrou joined Chrysostomides in July 2019 after the completion of her traineeship with the firm. Having acquired diverse work experience both in the litigation and corporate departments during her training, she currently deals with litigation work relating primarily to commercial and corporate disputes as well as with banking law. Polina also advises on family law and copyright law matters.

Her practice comprises appearing before the District Courts of Cyprus, reviewing and drafting legal documents, court pleadings, court applications, and agreements as well as providing legal opinions to local and international clients alike on matters relating to the areas of her practice.

Areas of Practice


Polina practices civil litigation and regularly appears before the District Court of Cyprus, representing clients in a variety of litigation matters including, inter alia, cases of a commercial and contractual nature. She further deals with debt recovery cases, the undertaking of enforcement measures, and also provides legal support and representation in bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings.

During her postgraduate studies, Polina specialized in copyright law and, in particular, European copyright law, which has deepened her knowledge of the applicable EU legislation and case law. This has enriched her practice, leading to an increase of advisory work on this area of law. Her thesis, “The Influence of Artificial Intelligence in European Copyright Law: To What Extent Can the Outputs of Intelligent Creative Machines Be Protected Under European Copyright Law?” was awarded a score of 100/100.

Polina is involved in banking litigation cases, focusing on claims concerning debt recovery. She further deals with matters of bankruptcy and insolvency. Polina’s work in this field focuses on the review of legal documents and contracts, the drafting of court applications and pleadings, as well as the issuance of legal opinions.

Polina’s practice entails the preparation of pleadings and the review of legal documents for family law cases that go to litigation as well as the drafting and issuance of opinions on matrimonial matters. She deals specifically with spousal disputes and divorces, child support, custody and maintenance matters, property division, settlement agreements, and civil unions.
