Elena is a Partner practising in the corporate and commercial department. Before joining the firm in 2007, she trained and practised as a Solicitor in London, working on many high profile media cases, and also undertook a secondment with one of the UK’s most succesful and prolific independent television producers.

Elena is dually qualified to practise in Cyprus, as well as in England & Wales.

Elena has been rated, listed and recommended in the banking and finance, as well as the corporate and M&A sections, of many international legal directories over the years including, recently, the Legal 500 EMEA and IFLR 1000 (listed as a ‘Rising star’) 2016 and 2017 editions.

Elena deals with major cross border transactions and acquisitions. She has undertaken complex and extensive due diligence exercises including on behalf of Aer Rianta International (Middle East) WLL (a subsidiary of Dublin Airport Authority) in relation to its acquisition of the entire interest in both the concessionaire of the retail operations and the concessionaire of the food and beverage operations at Larnaca and Paphos International Airports. She has also assisted Delivery Hero/Rocket Internet with the due diligence and, ultimate acquisition of, E-Food Greece and other entities as well as advising shareholders of First Names Group (including the majority shareholder, AnaCap Financial Partners) regarding sale of the group including Cyprus entities. Elena has also assisted with other large due diligence exercises in relation to the acquisition of a world renowned group in the automotive parts industry and various online businesses.

She advises on and assist with the implementation of restructurings involving Cyprus companies from small set ups to large scale, international groups. Ringier Axel Springer Media AG call upon Elena on a frequent basis to assist with structures and acquisitions involving Cyprus entities.

Elena has extensive experience in relation to multifaceted, high value financing transactions and often drafts complex security documents for international banks. She has acted for many renowned banking institutions, including Lloyds, Barclays, EBRD, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole, Barclays Wealth and Societe Generale.

Notable examples of her work includes advising in relation to a EUR 1.6 billion facility to OJSC Novolipetsk Steel; the provision by a major international bank of a EUR 100 million credit facility, derivatives agreements and security package to a client; and a USD billion facility, related documents and comprehensive security for a major energy project.

Elena regulary advises clients in relation to a wide range of corporate matters, including establishing Cyprus entities, transfers of shares, complex joint ventures (including drafting/advising upon proposed shareholder/joint venture agreements) and drafting constitutional documents to reflect specific requirements of the clients. She is also involved in negotiating and drafting various commercial contracts required by both domestic and international clients.

She advises Cyprus entities forming part of the Aer Rianta International group as well as Leroy Merlin through its operating entity in Cyprus as well as various entities active in different sectors, including energy, pharmaceuticals and retail. Other clients include Onmobile and Delivery Hero.

Elena advises clients interested in entering the emerging domestic energy sector, from major multinational oil companies to service providers at different stages in the industry. She acted for a major player regarding its acquisition of an interest in an exploration licence (for hydrocarbons) in one of the licensed blocks offshore Cyprus, as well as advising on the corresponding production-sharing contract and other related agreements.

Furthermore, Elena has advised clients in the renewable energy sector, including in relation to construction of the Tafila Wind Farm in Jordan (a 117MW facility financed, inter alia by, institutions such as the EIB and the IFC).

Elena also advises lenders in relation to large facilities to be granted to an entity with exploration licences in a foreign jurisdiction and the provision of related securities.

She has completed a distance learning course by the IBC Academy on the Fundamentals of Oil and Gas Contracts.

Elena has substantial expertise in data protection law matters, and frequently advises both local and international clients, including well-known global energy, insurance, pharmaceutical and banking groups.

She has assisted clients with submitting all relevant notices and applications to the Cyprus Commissioner for Personal Data Protection to comply with local and well as European laws and regulations.

Elena is now assisting clients with issues arising from, and implementation steps regarding, entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation.
