Human Rights Law Seminar

22nd Dec 2016

Associates Alexandros Efstathiou and Marie Thomas represented our firm at a seminar organised by the Cyprus Bar Association and the Young and Trainee Lawyers Association, in relation to recourses before the European Court of Human Rights.

Speakers included Achilleas Demetriades (Lawyer and President of the Committee of Human Rights of the Cyprus Bar Association), Costa Paraskevas (Lawyer and University Lecturer), Theodora Christodoulidou (Lawyer of the Republic) and Constantinos Tsimaras (University Lecturer).

The seminar focused on admissibility requirements for applications to the Court, the right to fair trial (Article 6 of the European Convention of Human Rights), just satisfaction and compensation in such recourses, and friendly settlements between applicants and the Republic pursuant to the mechanism of the Effective Remedies for Breach of the Right to Adjudication of Civil Rights and Obligations within Reasonable Time Law of 2010 (Law 2(I)/2010).
